Kelly Fitzgerald is the author of the sobriety post that went viral around the globe: 7 Things I Learned During My Year Without Alcohol. Like so many of us, once Kelly started drinking, she found it increasingly difficult to stop.
“I was a binge drinker, meaning I could go days without taking a drink, but when I did drink, I went hard. Blacking out was normal and recurrent for me. I did and said things I never would have done if I was sober. I had terrible hangovers and alcohol made me physically sick a lot. I played games with myself. I told myself I could just drink one, just drink beer, just drink wine, etc. but those conditions I set for myself never worked.”
Now two years alcohol-free, Kelly writes about her journey on her courageous and beautiful blog, Sober Señorita. Hers is a magical story of self-discovery, uncovering who she really is, and transforming her life…
“There is nothing bad about sobriety! My life has gotten so immensely better, I can’t even imagine going back. There is a quote I hear often that says: “My worst day in sobriety is better than my best day drunk.” And it’s so true. Even on bad days, life is good and I am grateful. I can handle anything that happens because I now have the tools and skills to deal with them. It’s not always easy, but it is always worth it.”
